About TopGear Karting

TopGear Karting is a small indoor kart track on Renny's Lane Industrial Estate at Gilesgate Moor, on the eastern side of Durham. The circuit is about 200 metres long, with laps of around 20 seconds and up to eight karts on track at once.

Children can drive from age 8 and 1.27 m tall, with junior karts for smaller drivers, which makes it a common choice for children's birthday parties. Sessions are sold by the lap rather than by the minute.

Adults aged 16 and over can book grand prix formats with heats, semi-finals and a final, or a 100-lap Ironman race for up to eight drivers, and there is a conference room for work groups.

The karts

One thing we're checking: 200cc petrol karts, standard and junior, single-seat only. The site names the karts as Biz on one page and Sodi on another. The operator quotes an average speed of about 25 mph.
