About JDR Karting and Lasertag

JDR Karting is an indoor karting and activity centre on the Madleaze Trading Estate off Bristol Road in Gloucester, a few minutes' walk from Gloucester Quays. The main circuit is a 300-metre tarmac track with three banked corners, where laps take around 25 seconds. Senior drivers use Sodi SR4 karts with Honda 200cc engines.

Drivers aged 13 and over with an inside leg of at least 28 inches use the full-size karts. Children aged 8–12 who are at least 1.3m tall drive petrol cadet karts on the same track. Younger children have a separate electric track: Racing Rascals for ages 4–6 and Electric Cadets for roughly 7–10.

Besides 13-minute open sessions, the centre runs sprint races, individual and team endurance events for ages 14 and over, children's parties and stag and hen groups. Karting can also be combined with laser tag, adventure golf and axe throwing in the same building.

Which circuit can they drive?

Different circuits here take different ages, so the headline minimum isn't the whole story.

Main track — 300m Sodi SR4 (Honda GX200 200cc, senior) · Petrol cadet karts (8–12) Senior karts are for ages 13 and over with a minimum 28-inch inside leg. Petrol cadet karts take ages 8–12 with a minimum height of 1.3m (and older drivers whose inside leg is under 28 inches). The track has three banked high-speed corners; the operator quotes laps of around 25 seconds.

Kids electric track Racing Rascals (electric, 4–6) · Electric Cadets (electric, 7–10) Separate indoor track for younger children. Racing Rascals are for ages 4–6 with no minimum height and no helmet. Electric Cadets are for ages 7–10 with a minimum height of 1.25m and helmets are worn. The two kart types never share the track. Sodi SR4

One thing we're checking: Senior karts are Sodi SR4s with Honda GX200 200cc petrol engines and belt drive. Petrol cadet karts also run on the main track. Racing Rascals and Electric Cadets are electric and run on a separate kids' track.

Questions about JDR Karting and Lasertag

Is the karting indoors?

Yes. The 300m main track and the separate electric kids' track are both inside the Bristol Road building.

How old do you need to be to drive?

Racing Rascals start at age 4, Electric Cadets are for about 7–10 (minimum 1.25m), petrol cadets are for 8–12 (minimum 1.3m) and full-size karts are for 13 and over with a minimum 28-inch inside leg. Endurance events are for ages 14 and over.

Is there a size or weight limit for adults?

The operator gives an upper limit of 18 stone (115kg) and 1.9m (6ft 4in). Helmet size can also be a limiting factor.

What do I need to wear or pay for on top of the session?

A race suit, helmet and gloves are supplied. Petrol-kart drivers who borrow a helmet must wear a balaclava and gloves, sold as a £5 Race Pack that you keep. Wear casual clothes and flat shoes or trainers, not heels or sandals.

Will we have the track to ourselves?

Race events and parties are exclusive. Open 13-minute track sessions may be shared with other drivers.

Can we bring our own food?

Yes, but there is a £3 per head charge to use the facilities. Birthday cakes are welcome, and the café can cater for special diets.
