About Formulakart

Formulakart is an outdoor hire-kart circuit on Queen's Promenade at North Shore, Blackpool, about a mile north of the Tower. The 750-metre concrete track sits in a bowl-shaped arena, averages 9 metres across and is edged with tyre barriers.

Adults aged 16 and over drive karts with twin Honda GX160 engines, which the operator rates at around 60 mph. A smaller fleet of single-engine junior karts takes children from age 8, provided they are at least 4ft 6in tall.

Sessions run as 10- or 15-minute arrive-and-drive slots, and groups can book a Grand Prix or team endurance race. Children's party packages, stag and hen groups and company events are also catered for, and it is open daily.

Top speed of 60mph is the operator's published figure, not an independent measurement.

One thing we're checking: Operator quotes 60 mph and a typical lap of about 50 seconds for the senior twin-engine karts, and 50 mph and about 55 seconds for the junior karts, whose engines can be restricted.
