About the track

A 550-metre outdoor circuit at Aviemore with the Cairngorms as a backdrop, and one of the more interesting layouts in Scotland — six metres wide for overtaking, sweeping bends on positive camber, undulations, and a long straight down one side.

It caters for a wider age range than almost anywhere else we've listed. Battery karts on a separate small track take children from three, a four-year-old can ride as a tandem passenger with an adult, solo driving starts at eight in the Kadet karts, and the 200cc karts from thirteen share the track with both — so a whole family can genuinely race together. The fastest 270cc karts are seventeen and over and never run alongside the family karts.

Open every day bar Christmas and Boxing Day, from 10am, and it runs in the wet with waterproof suits lent out and a covered pit area. Only heavy snow or severe ice closes it, and bookings are then rescheduled or refunded. Booking ahead is essential.

Which circuit can they drive?

Different circuits here take different ages, so the headline minimum isn't the whole story.

Questions people ask

How young can children drive?

Three, on the battery karts, which run on their own small track for £2 a session with no booking needed. On the main track, solo driving starts at eight in the Kadet karts, provided the child is at least 4ft 2in. A four-year-old can ride as a passenger in a tandem kart with a driver aged 17 or over.

Can parents and children race together?

Yes. The Kadet karts for 8 to 13s, the 200cc karts for 13 and over, and the tandem karts all share the track during arrive-and-drive sessions. The faster 270cc karts run separately for safety.

What does it cost?

Ten-minute time trials run from £14 for a Kadet kart to £22 for a tandem — and the tandem price is per kart rather than per person, so it works out at £11 each for a driver and passenger. Exclusive group races are £40 to £60 per driver.

Can I book more than one session?

Yes, as many ten-minute time trials as you like, subject to availability. Every arrive-and-drive driver gets a lap time printout for each one.

Are there height or weight limits?

Maximum 6ft 6in and 18 stone, for safety reasons.

Do they run in bad weather?

Yes. Waterproof suits are lent out and the pits and reception are covered. They operate in most icy conditions too, though heavy snow or severe ice can close the track — bookings are then rescheduled or refunded.

What's the minimum group size for an exclusive booking?

Eight drivers, up to a maximum of fifty. The track closes to the public for your group, and every driver gets a place in the final regardless of how they qualify.

Do I need to bring anything?

Race suits and helmets are provided free. You need your own balaclava and gloves for hygiene, or you can buy them there — balaclavas are £1.50 or £3, gloves £1.50.

Do I need to book?

Yes, booking is essential for the main track. The battery karts for younger children don't need booking.
